Welcome to this ever-changing and growing blog! I started it about a year ago, and it keeps on growing with new ideas and pages we the time goes by.
This blog started as a reference page when I was teaching my student teachers of language classes at university. It became the home page for some examples of integration of technology in SL classes.

It is now a great example of techniques and ideas on how to take and implement some simple ideas for a beginner level class on greetings.  The blog helps teachers and students prepare with ideas about greeting somebody new and sharing some nice relevant pieces of information. The final task is to engage in a live "speed dating" session with each other. The blog shows some practice ideas and use of technology but the hope is that students end up using the knowledge to engage in a final speed dating real session. I have set some examples in my podcast in the teacher page, to let you see how a unit in this fashion can end.

Expand on your Vocabulary

So, we now have a few vocabulary words in hand for our speed dating. Let's review them together and add some more expressions that can help you. You can always email your teacher to ask for even more structures if you want. It can be fun to say nice things.

Remember you want to take on a fake identity for your final task - when you will actually take on a new name, a new job, origin, nationality, things you like and meet new people.

Appuntamenti Veloci

1. Appuntamenti veloci - Speed dating.  We can say things like: Vado a fare una seduta di appuntamenti veloci. Stasera faccio una seduta di appuntamenti veloci. Hai mai fatto appuntamenti veloci? Ti siedi due minuti e parli di te, poi vai a un altro tavolo e incontri nuove persone...
2. Ragazzi - Boys.  Mi piacciono i ragazzi alti e magri. Mi piacciono i ragazzi gentili. Mi piacciono i ragazzi che fanno sport e leggono tanti libri diversi. Mi piacciono i ragazzi timidi.
3. Cantante - singer - Faccio la cantante. Il mio cantante preferito e' Vasco. Mi piacciono i cantanti rock. Canto in un coro di musica gospel.
4. Animali - Animals - Mi piacciono tantissimo gli animali. Amo gli animali. Sono un'appassionata di animali. Ti piacciono gli animali? Che animali ti piacciono? Hai animali in casa? Hai mai avuto animali?
5. Viaggiare - To travel - Amo viaggiare per il mondo. Mi piace un sacco viaggiare in Asia e nord America. Ti piace viaggiare? Tu viaggi? Dove ha viaggiato l'ultima volta? Sono appassionata di viaggi.
6. Film dell'Orrore - Horror Movies - Mi piacciono i film dell'orrore.  Non posso vedere i film dell'orrore - mi spavento da morire! Che belli i film dell'orrore! Qual e' l'ultimo film dell'orrore che hai visto?
7. Ragazze semplici - Simple girls - Mi piacciono le ragazze semplici, acqua e sapone! Mi piace incontrare ragazze semplici e senza trucco. Le ragazze semplici sono le migliori per farti compagnia.
8. Pilota - pilot - Sono pilota. Sto studiando per diventare pilota. Faccio il pilota da dieci anni e giro per il mondo. Mi piace volare e sono pilota di aerei internazionali. Lavoro con l'Aliltalia.
9. Scienziata - Scientist - Sono una scienziata e lavoro in un istituto di chimica. Sono scienziata al museo internazionale delle scienze di New York. Mi occupo di scienze chimiche all'universita'.
10. Ballerina - dancer - Sono ballerina alla Scala di Milano. Lavoro come prima ballerina per un gruppo mobile di danza moderna. Sono ballerina da dieci anni.
11. Meccanico - mechanic - Faccio il meccanico da tre anni. Sono appassionata di meccanica. Lavoro con le mani - faccio il meccanico. Sono un meccanico da paura: nulla mi e' segreto di una macchina!

NOTES

1. Watch the video segment and take notes of what you see people do in the video.
2. Work with your teacher to find out key verbs that will help you say these actions in Italian.
3. Watch the video once more, this time without the audio. Follow along your notes to say in your mind what is happening.
4. Write your narration notes and share them with you teacher - you will receive feedback on your notes.

SCRIPT

1. For fun, write a simple script that will dub the key meeting conversations people in the clip are engaging in. Use fun structures from the vocabulary and sentences we have studied together in this lesson. 
2. Check your script to see it fits the time the people in the clip speak to each other.
3. In a class setting, try out your dubbing skills by reading and acting out your script while the clip shows on the screen.
4. You can also try to use an audio pal file to do a dubbing of your own. Send the file to your teacher to post on a blog.
